If the Sun is locaed in a different network, there may be a firewall between your PC and the Sun. In a firewall environment you cannot get access to the remote Unix via XDMCP.

To verify your network configuration, please telnet to the Sun and then do a ping command to your PC. To use Xmanager, the ping command in the Sun should be able to reach at your PC. Also, run Xstart and try to run an xterm via Telnet protocol.

Another reason of the problem might be a name server configuration. Your PC's name may not be configured correctly on the Sun. Add the IP address of your PC in the /etc/hosts file of the Sun.

For further support, please send us the following files:

- C:Program FilesXmanager1.3.9Xmanager.log
- /var/dt/Xerrors in the Sun machine

Hope to solve the problem.

I try run the Xstart point to the Sun server, the error message is

Xrcmd
Cannot connect to the remote host. Please make sure
if the host is ready.
OK

Is that compatible Xmanager running on WindowsXP ?
I'm not doing add my IP address to the etc/hosts at the server because other PC can connect.

See the attachment for the log file.

Thanks.

If other PCs can connect to the server, your Windows XP might have a firewall configuration on it. You need to check the TCP/IP filtering feature in XP.

Xmanager requires that incoming TCP 6000 ~ 6010 ports are not filtered out by the firewall configuration.

I already tried to check the TCP/IP filtering in WindowsXP, but still disable and also the Firewall services.
Now, it still can't connect.

This error occurs when a TELNET server is not available on the Unix or you cannot reach at the Unix. Please check if you can log on to the Unix using a normal telnet client program. Also, check if you chose the TELNET protocol in the Xstart protocol list box.

This message is displayed when:

- The Unix server doesn't provide XDMCP service.
Check if a "dtlogin" process is running on the server.
Also, Xmanager tries to connect to the UDP 177 port of the server.
- The Unix cannot reach at your PC due to a firewall.
If the Xstart works well, this is not the reason of the problem.
- DNS configuration has an incorrect entry for your IP address.
Your IP address is translated to "hostname" and then the "hostname"
is converted to IP address again by the Unix. If a mismatch occurs
in the process, XDMCP connection might fail.
- For XDMCP connection error, /var/dt/Xerrors file will be a good help.
