When running xmanager to connect to my Mandrake boxen, i can get an xterm window just fine, but when trying to bring up KDE, the window draws the border, the mouse cursor goes to the linux wristwatch "busy" cursor, and then the widnow closes. Any ideas?

Sorry for the late response.
Mandrake 9.1 is using a new program for XDMCP service and so we need to test it to figure out the reason of the problelm.
We'll post a reply soon.

There is an unknown problem with the KDE 3.1.x in Mandrake. Unfortunately we are not able to figure out the reason for now.
To work around it, you can use GNOME instead of KDE. To change the environment to GNOME, please do following steps:
1. Log on to the Linux console.
2. Click the "start menu->Configuration->Mandrake Control Center->hardware->display manager chooser" in sequence.
3. Select GDM.
4. Save the changes and restart Linux.
For the KDE problem, we will post a reply as soon as we get a solution.

Ok. I'll give it a shot, of course I need to INSTALL gnome, first, but I'll post a reply as soon as I can get it working.
Thanks.
Thanks.

It works with gnome as the window manager, but not with KDE. Any ideas yet?

We are trying to solve the problem but there is no solution yet. The same version of KDE works well in RedHat and other Linux. It may be due to the Qt library in Mandrake 9.1.
We will post a reply as soon as a clear solution is found.

I encountered this problem a couple of months ago when I installed Mdk 9.1 in my laptop.
After reading forums and such, yes it seems to be a problem with the Qt library, more specifically with the rendering of antialiased fonts or something like that. I forget :-)
The same problem happened when trying to connect with tightvnc.
There's an rpm packaged by _____?_____ which seems to solve this problem but you may get not-so-nice fonts.
Sorry, I'm not giving much information because I don't remember at the moment. But just to reassure you that Mandrake's version of one of Qt's RPMs is the problem
