Capture Xmanager window in Window 2000 pro

Hi
I'm evaluating Xmanager 1.3.9.6 as a replacement for an early version of ReflectionX (v6.0). So far I've not seen any BIG disadvantages with your product.
Two smaller items though: 1) As I'm lazy and don't want to logout every day I leave my Xmanager-session logged in for days (weeks). After one or two days Xmanager looses the ability to outline my window when I move it around. Left button on my mouse moves the window all right, but I don't know exactly where it ends up. (As I have dual screens this is annoying when a window ends up partly in one screen and partly in the other.)
2) Even more disturbing is that I can not capture a Xmanager window with Alt + PrtScreen and paste it to any other program (i.e. word, paint etc.).
For documentation reasons this is very important. It seems as capture doesn't work as long as a Xmanager window is in focus, not even PrtScreen works for capturing the whole desktop as long as a Xmanager window is in focus. This is one of the big disadvantages compared with ReflectionX I've found so far. (One feature of ReflectionX I've found that Xmanager would really benefit from, is that one can use Alt + mousebutton to automatically captore a window in focus and send it to clipboard/printer/file without having to go via any other program where one has to paste the ficture.)

My configuraton is: PC P4 Windows 2000 pro (5.00.2195 serv pack 3)
Host: Vax or Alpha station, OpenVMS 6.1, 6.2 or 7.1
Protocol: REXEC
Start: @sys$system:ipx$server.com $PCADDR session

For the first problem, download the latest version at:

/download/download.html

And then do the following steps:

1. Run Xconfig.
2. Click Window tab.
3. Select Multiple Window Mode.
4. Click the Use Full Screen check box.
5. Click OK and restart your session.

For the capture problem, do the following steps:

1. Run Xconfig.
2. Click Option tab.
3. Clear the Automatic Cut & Paste check box.
4. Click OK and restart your session.

Hope to solve the problem.

I am facing the same problem: ALT-PrtScreen does not dump the actual, focal screen. Only with Ctrl-PrtScreen a non-focal XManager Window can be seen (and then cut with a graphic editor to desired size).
The hint of support with the mark in the options menu is done in my configuration, but I think this is ment for cut and paste only - or?

The Automatic Cut & Paste option overrides the Windows clipboard with text data and the image you captured is cleared before paste. So, you should clear the option to enable captures of image data.

Also make sure that Xmanager is configured as Multiple Window Mode. In Single Window Mode, you are not able to capture separate X application windows.

Ok - now I understand!

I have to decide whether I like the Automatic Cut & Paste feature to get the text out of the window, or the Windows Cut possibility to get a picture of the window.

As in most situations, I need the text, I have to mark the option, and only in situations, I need the screendump of the window, I clear the option. As this is possible without closing the window, this is a good work-a-round!

Thanks for the explanation! Nikolaus

Thanks for your feedback.

We are planning to upgrade our product so that you don't have to turn it on or off each time.
