Password authentication failure if SSH is used. [4]
Password authentication failure if SSH is used.
Thursday, May 15, 2003 4:14 PM - Michael Altmann
I've got a password authentication failure if SSH is used
to connect to a local machine using Xmanager. There is
no type in either username or password.
With Cygwin/XFree86 I am able to connect to the remote
machine with SSH. Any ideas?

Please turn the zlib compression option off in the "Advanced" option of Xstart. The zlib option might cause such a problem depending on the ssh server.
This problem will be fixed in the future version of Xmanager.
If it doesn't work, please provide us with the messages displayed in the Execution Result window.

I've tested deselecting zlib compression prior to asking
the Xmanager Forum. It yields the same error messages:
1. Message Box with title "Xssh Error" and contents
"Password authentication failure. Incorrect user name
or password".
But user name and password is correct. The execution log
window of the "Xssh - Remote execution result" box yields
the attachment.
Sorry for the graphics, but Windows NT doesn't allow me
to cut and paste the contents of the log scrollbar window.
By the way, when I tunnel X over ssh with Cygwin/XFree86,
i got the warning
"Warning: No xauth data; use fake authentication data
for X11 forwarding."
Maybe this is related to the problem when using Xmanager
for tunneling X over SSH.
