Keyboard Editor

Wednesday, February 19, 2003 11:37 PM - Paul

I used the Keyboard editor to re-define the J-Key. What I have is now:
Unshifted: J
Shifted: NoSymbol
ModeSwitch: Clear
ShiftModeSwich: NoSymbol

Now I'm able to use "Alt Gr + J" to clear the display i.e. in my hpterm window. Nearly every things works fine, except I can't use anymore the "Shift + J" in some dialog windows, i.e. the File Open dialog within the dtpad editor. In other applications, i.e. SAS on this HP-Unix, I cannot use the J-Key in the File Open dialog at all (regardless if with or without the Shift-Key)
Is there are way to fix this?

Paul

We've tested the same key configuration, but Shift + J works well with the File Open dialog of dtpad.

For further assistance, please let us know the language of HP unix and also upload the keyboard file you changed.

The HP-Unix I work on is a HP 9000/898, the installed operation system is HP-UX B.11.00 and I assume the language of the HP-Unix is English. I attach my changed keyboard file. The Shift + J doesn't work at all for dtpad. There are other applications (i.e. SAS) where the Shift + J doesn't work in Dialog boxes, but works within the SAS editor. Please let me know, what else you need from me to help me fixing that problem.

We've tested with the keymap file you provided, and figured out that some alphabetic characters which have hp keysyms defined for ModeSwitch do not work well with dt applications. The problem might occur due to key bindings used by dt applications and in part due to the limitation of hpterm.

We recommend you to remove ModeSwitch definitions of alphanumeric characters. It will be better to use function keys(F1 ~ F12) for special functions in hpterm.

We hope this can help you.
