Red Hat 9 probs

It just seems that RH 9 doesn't want us to connect to X via XDMCP! I made the changes listed in FAQ 2 and Xmanager worked great in RH 8. When I upgraded to RH 9, Xmanager cannot get connected to the RH server. Telnet works, FTP works (after I fixed a bug in RH's vsftpd RPM file!) sendmail works. Xmanager is dead. Help!!!

OK... here's the poop about RH9...
You need to also fool around with the iptables file. You need to enable port 177 and 7100. I have no idea what I did, but I copied the "-A" lines that enabled the httpd, telnet, etc ports and changed the port number to 177 for both ip and udp.
I have no idea what I did, but things are working now. Take care. Shalom.
Mike.

I renamed the iptables file in sysconfig and things are working very nicely. Apparently, the iptables do just about the same thing as the system router, i.e., blocking out individual port numbers.
So... unless you are running linux to act as a router you can just rename the iptables file to somthing like iptables.rh9 in which case you wouldn't have to play around with the iptables internals.
peace.
