XDMCP failed [7]

Hi, running trial version of Xmanager on WinXP, at first it work great, everything was fine. i was able to get remote login through XDMCP with Xmanager and also could forward X11 through SSH with Xstart, then all suddenly on the second day i couldn't get remote login using Xmanager, the chooser broadcast shows my linux box but when connectiong i get " XDCMP CONECTION FAILED. RETRY ? Y, N " .It just stop working, i didn't make any changes on either of the two boxes, WinXP built-in firewall and TCP/IP filtering are disabled, lInux box firewall disabled too, Xstart stills works fine. My Win box and Linux box are connected to a hub, the hub is connected to the cable modem and every box has it's on private ip.I have a second WinXP box connected to the hub, i install Xmanager on it and had the same problem, thought in WInXP box 1 i succesfully got a remote login for a while on the WinXP box 2 i never could,Hope that's enough info. Your product is great and planning on purchasing soon if everything works right. cheers

If there is no change in your systems environment, there may be a problem in the DNS configuration. Please check forward and reverse lookup tables of the name server. If the IP address of your PC is mapped to an incorrect name or the name is mapped to an incorrent IP address, you will experience such a problem.

IP-to-name and name-to-IP mappings should produce the same result.

If the IP address is allocated by DHCP, just remove all dynamic IP addresses from the name server. You don't have to put the dynamic addresses into the name server tables.

thanks for your reply, how do i get around this? i'm not running a nameserver

The forward and reverse lookup tables are located in /var/named. Please read "first-domain.com" and "first-xxx.xxx.xxx" files for any entries that can be allocated by DHCP. Also, check the /etc/hosts file that can override name server configuration.

And you can find XDMCP error logs in /var/gdm directory.

For further support, please provide us with the following:

- Linux version and vendor
- Linux desktop (Gnome or KDE)
- Is your IP address dynamic?

Linux version: Slackware 9.1
Desktop: Gnome/Fluxbox (both worked fine when i was able to connect)
Static IP adresses

So must i run the bind daemon (named) for it to work?

If you have a static IP address, there is no reason for the problem.

Please provide us with the "C:\Program Files\Xmanager1.3.9\Xmanager.log" file for further research. We will also try to find any reason for the problem with Slackware.

We've tried Slackware and it worked well with Xmanager. There was no special configurations for it.

According to the Xmanager.log file, your Windows and Linux box have the following address:

Windows: 200.89.233.162
Linux: 200.89.235.16

The two systems have different network numbers and there should be a gateway between them.

Please check again the gateway system for any firewall settings. And also, confirm again the firewall settings of your Windows XP since it may be turned on by changes on your network settings.

Anyway, Xmanager listens TCP 6000 ~ 6010 and the connection from Linux to Windows XP shouldn't be prevented.
