Connecting to AIX [3]

Connecting to AIX

Saturday, May 29, 2004 1:09 AM - Jonathan King

I followed the instructions in the Help files for AIX, but when I connect I get this error:

XDCMP connection failed.

I am new to AIX and XManager and need assistance setting up AIX so I can connect with XManager. The AIX machine in question has no video card and I am not sure if XWindows is set up on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a "dtlogin" process running on AIX? If not, you are not able to get a CDE environment.

First of all, check if "/usr/dt" directory exists on AIX. If it is not found, you should install X window (CDE) package on your AIX.

After installing X window package, refer to FAQ #3 at:
/products/xmg_faq.html

Hope this helps you.

I do have the dtlogin service running and I ran /usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e and was informed that the CDE environment is already the default user interface. The machine is behind a firewall, are there any ports I need open. I do get a dtterm window and can run commands, but no xwindows environment. Is there a command I need to run at the terminal to get a window?

Thanks,

After running a dtterm, try to run "/usr/dt/bin/Xsession" at the prompt of the dtterm.

For the XDMCP connection, try to read /var/dt/Xerrors for any tips on the problem.
