Problem with SuSE Linux 9.0?

Monday, January 5, 2004 11:26 PM - Matthias Krau¿

I cannot get working XManager 1.3.9 against SuSE Linux 9.0 Professional. It works with all older versions (SuSE 8.1, 8.2, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8); but with SuSE 9.0 I'm getting (via XBrowser and displaymanager kdm on the linux box) in /var/log/kdm.log:
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation) Major opcode of failed request: 53 (X_CreatePixmap) Value in failed request: 0x8 Serial number of failed request: 206 Current serial number in output stream: 211

Choosing xdm as display manager doesn't help; the graphical login works, but after that nearly every application crashes (konqueror, yast, ...).

Any suggestions?

The problem occurs since SuSE login window requires a 256 color visual. You can fix it by configuring Xmanager as following:

1. Run the Xconfig utility in the Xmanager folder.
2. Click Color tab, and then select PseudoColor in the Default Visual list.
3. Click Option tab, and then select WhenMapped in the Default Backing Store list.
4. Click OK to save the change and restart Xmanager.

We are planning to release Xmanager 2.0 soon and it will support multiple visual simultaneously. You don't have to configure Xmanager in the new version.

Hope to solve the problem.
