I noticed Xmanager currently does not support the LBX extension.
Are there any plans to support this in the future ?

Xmanager 2.0 will be available in a few months. Unfortunately it doesn't support LBX. The LBX extension is considered to be supported in v3.0 and it may take a year from now.
In a slow network environment, you can use Xstart with the SSH protocol instead LBX. The SSH (Secure Shell) protocol supports data compression and security.
