GNOME on SuSE 9.0 is slow [3]
GNOME on SuSE 9.0 is slow
Thursday, April 1, 2004 2:19 AM - Thomas
Hello,
using Xmanager 1.3.9.8 on WinXP accessing GNOME 2.2.2 on SuSE 9.0 is slow, esp. with scrolling in a gnome-terminal. Switching to fvwm2 on the gdm is fine, so there must be something in the communication between the GNOME system and the Xmanager. Any hints?
TIA

Gnome is getting complex and very slow for most programs in it. Especially the gnome-terminal is unusable even on the console. This is an issue of all Linux distributions. It may be improved in the future version of Linux.
Meanwhile we recommend you to use an "xterm" instead the "gnome-terminal". You can run the xterm on any terminal window like this:
$ xterm &
The fvwm2 opens an xterm as a default terminal program. So, it looks fast than Gnome.
Hope this helps you.

Make sure you're not using SSH with the 1.3.9 series - it's terribly slow.

I have had the same problem. It works great on Fedora Core 1, or RedHat 9, but with SuSE 9.0, it is very slow.
I am using XManager 1.3.9
I have tried XManager 2.0 beta and get same results.
Also, I cant believe there is still no GLX support in XManager. The other competitors have had it for a while now.
