Windows XP Tablet crashes with VMNETSRV.SYS error

When I try to start kde (startdke) from a shell, it almost finishes loading, then I get the blue screen of death, with the following error:
Driver_IRQL_Not_less_or_equal
vmnetsrv.sys address F6B8C9A5 at F6B8B000
Help!

The problem might be caused by:
1. A damaged Virtual Memory Manager Page file.
2. A faulty RAM (memory) module.
3. A RAM module that is NOT compatible with the computer's chip set.
