xmanager 1.39 and fontpath
Friday, August 27, 2004 11:08 PM - fred
Hi,
I'm using xmanager 1.3.9 to connect to the linux
boxes (redhat 9).
I have set fonts paths in my home directory (on linux box), but these are not known from X :-(
1) Under WinXP, "Permit Modification of Font Path" is checked ;
2) Under Linux, xset +fp myfontpath is set in my .xsession ;
3) but when I run xset q, only Xmanager's fontpath
(C:\Program Files\...) are known, not these I have in my home directory
4) if I open my X session directly from my linux box, without passing through Xmanager, myfontpath is known. All is right.
Have you got an idea ?
Thanks in advance.
PS : I'm not admin on the linux box.
Cheers.

Xmanager can access only the font path elements on the local disk. So, you should copy the fonts on Linux to your Windows.
If you would like to manage all fonts on Linux, use the font server instead of "xset +fp".

I can't modify font server.
So I must use xset fp...
What is the format of the .pcz file ?
With what are they compressed ?
Thanks.

".pcz" is the same as ".pcf.Z" on Unix. It is compressed with the "compress" program.
Xmanager 1.3.9 can process both ".pcz" and ".pcf.Z". You may rename ".pcf.Z" files to ".pcz" of your preference.
Hope this helps you.

Hmm, I only have "mscompress" (found for my Debian sarge), to compress in Windows format. But it doesn't work :-(

.pcf.Z is a Unix format, not a Windows format. You should use "compress" on your Linux.
I think that the fonts you want to download are already compressed to ".pcf.Z". Therefore, you don't have to convert the fonts on Linux, just copy the entire font directory to Xmanager fonts folder.
