Cannot get Xmanager started

Wednesday, April 3, 2002 11:24 PM - Frank

I am running a network of Win 2000 workstation pc's and trying to connect to a couple of HP UX 11.1 boxes. I have installed xmanage 1.39 on two or three machines and it works fine. I installed it on two or theee since then and now I cannot get it to connect. All I have done on any ofthem is to add the HP machines through xbrowser and connect. The ones that don't connect just sit at the intial grey screen. I am at a loss. Thanks for your help.

Please check if the pcname and IP address is correctly mapped in your HP server. A misconfiguration of name-to-IP(forward mapping) or IP-to-name(reverse mapping) in the name server might cause such problem.

You can try to add an IP-to-name mapping in "/etc/hosts" file for each problem PC. Or else you can try to change the IP address to the one that works fine with Xmanager.

I made a /etc/hosts change adding my lptop to the known hosts. This got me as far as the login and passwd entry....then the window immediately dies.

Closer but not quite there?

If you got a login window, you can try to login as another user who has no problem in using Xmanager. Your login shell scripts may have incorrect configuration of "DISPLAY" environment variable.

Please check the followings:

- The login window looks good?
- Check locale by clicking "language" button in the login window.
- After entering username and password, what happens? Xmanager just closes?
- "C:Program FilesXmanager1.3.9Xmanager.log" file might give a clue.
