Solaris no local dtlogin [1]

I want to use Xmanager remotely without enabling the dtlogin locally.

I am running Solaris 7 and 8 on Sparc and Intel. Our equipment is co-located in a site that supports only text display on the local machines. I have taken dtlogin out of the Solaris initialization, so that locally the machine displays only text.

But then I get "Error: Can't open display:" when I run "/usr/dt/bin/dtterm -ls -display $DISPLAY".

You can use Solaris CDE with Xmanager even though the local server is not running. To do that, comment out the following line in the /usr/dt/config/Xservers file.

:0 Local local_uid@console root /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun :0 -nobanner

And then enable dtlogin again with "dtconfig -e" command. After rebooting the Solaris, you can see the text console at the local machine but still you can connect to Solaris using XDMCP method.

And we don't understand why the dtterm doesn't work well. Please check your login scripts and try to find "DISPLAY" variable settings. If there is a line that have the variable, please remove it.
