Xapplications hang if inactive [1]
Xapplications hang if inactive
Thursday, September 12, 2002 10:20 AM - Pari
I have a Win2000 PC at home and I am using the Cisco VPN client to connect to my coorporate network. I start the XManager and connect to my Sun box running Solaris 8. I then export xterms. The xterms and other Xapplications hang and lose connection if they are inactive for a period between 2-5 minutes.
Is there some setting in Xmanager that can be changed to keep the connection alive?

Unfortunately, Xmanager doesn't support a keep alive session for remote connections. It is a basic limitation of X protocol.
However, Xstart with an SSH protocol can support a keep alive feature. It requires an ssh server is installed in the Unix server. You can learn more about ssh connection in the Xmanager FAQ page at:
/bbs/listfaq.html
Also, you can extend the timeout value of the VPN long enough for a normal Xmanager session.
