nssock2.dll blues
Wednesday, August 16, 2017 10:21 PM - P. Garrison
Good day,
I've been a long-time xshell user. Tried using it today and got an "nssock2.dll file missing" error. Okay.. Not being able to find it, I removed xshell5 from my system. I then downloaded the latest version from the web site. Upon attempting reinstallation I get an "Error 1310: Error writing to file c:\Program Files (x86)\NetSarang\Xshell 5\nssock2.dll. Verify that you have access to the directory." I tried running the install as administrator and get this result.
Any suggestions much appreciated otherwise I shall have to go looking for another terminal emulator program.
Program Ver. : Xshell 5

Since the nssock2.dll file was removed, your system is now secure.
Now, to address your issue of reinstalling. Can you restart your PC and then try the installation again as an administrator? Please report back if this does not resolve the issue.

The rebooting and reinstall worked fine. Thank you! Amazing how such insidious software can show up in the most unlikely of places! Glad you caught it and fixed it. Always vigilant!

Glad to hear it worked out. While we're happy that we were able to address it, we're not pleased that it got in our software in the first place.
We're adopting additional security measures to make sure this never happens again. Thank you for using Xshell and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
