Modifying default settings ? in three variants. [15]

1. Where can I modify default settings ? That is, those settings that will be used as default for future created sessions ?

3. If there possibilty to modify property X for *all* sessions ? That would be very useful, too. Example: font. I have 30 sessions defined, and I really need sometimes to change property X in all of them. ("modify all")

3. Is there possibility to modify *defaults* in all already created sessions ? That means, I modify property X in one dialog, and then value of X changes in all sessions where X was left equal to default, but not modified in those sessions where property X != default (that's "modify past defaults" vs #1 "modify future defaults")

#1 is very basic, can't find it ?

In Xshell, click small arrow next to the Properties icon. From the menu, click Default session. This opens the Default Session Properties window.

To increase height available to ssh, I keep disabled most toolbars, including this Standard Toolbar.

So this small arrow button is difficult to access for me.

Is is accessible from normal Menu somehow ? Too much tolbars clutter screen space.

When no session is open, select File > Properties. This will open the Default Properties dialog box.

- Hi really need to change de default log path for example for almost 50 sessions.
- I would like the system to keep my default username and ssh key when I connect from a default session or directly in Shell local

This feature will be added to the next major version. Thank you for sharing your ideas.

Have you tried Xshell 5 beta? In Xshell 5, you can batch edit multiple session files. Select multiple files on the Sessions dialog box and click the Properties menu.

But, how can I select multiple session files in different folders?

Besides, I'd rather edit the session configuration files (*.xsh) directly, and manage them with git.

I prefer a *default* session configuration file which contains almost all the common settings, and other session files just *include* it, specifying only one or two settings such as IP and/or port.

For example:

[INCLUDE]
default.xsh

[CONNECTION]
Host=192.168.100.100
Port=2222

That's a good idea, i like it!

But this method has it's own drawbacks as well. For example, when you edit an option in a session, you cannot know which option the session is inheriting from the default sessions and which ones are for its own.

It is easy to know when you are editing the session files directly but it is hard to differentiate them if you are just using GUI.

Please tell me if this feature works for you. Every time you edit and save the default session properties, just before it saves, it can ask you if you would want to apply the changes to all sessions.

It's easy for GUI, too. If you edit an option using GUI, then add/change this option of that session in its session file to override the default one.

Your solution could work. But there is another issue. I usually share my session files with my colleagues, but they don't have my color scheme or don't like my favorite font, etc. Actually, all we want to share with each other are a few settings, such as IP, port, login scripts.

If we have different *default.xsh* of our own, and share other session files, that should be awesome!

Just add a tick to different option sets 'use default'.

Any update on modifying properties of all saved sessions at once?

You can select sessions as many as you want in session dialog window.
And click properties then change settings. Then all session you selected will be affected
