Select text with Shift + double click [20]
Select text with Shift + double click
Saturday, July 25, 2015 7:36 PM - Bean
Hi there,
with the latest XShell version the select text fuction has been changed. Before the update one could highlight (and select) a full line with holding Shift then doubleclick somewhere in a line. That was an awesome and quick function to select a full line (from the beginning to the line end). For some reason it does not working anymore in build 0697.
Fix it, please.
Thanks in advance!

Hello.
When triple click select whole line, the new-line char selected too.
So when triple-click-selected line pasted to XShell, it looks like Enter pressed after line typed.
Is this intended behaviuor, or some sort of bug?

Support, you are right, it's not doubleclick, it is tripleclick that has changed in the last version. Before it is highlighted the line to the last character (without newline at the end). Now, in the latest version it highlights to the end of the line (end of the screen) regardless of characters in that particular line.

Ok, now I see that this change is intentional, it is a feature, not a bug (http://blog.netsarang.com/351/triple-click-selection-includes-new-line-character-lf/). But this change makes copy/paste full lines realy complicated. Can you create a settings in Option menu, to turn off this new feature?
Thanks,
Bean
Thanks,

Hi Support,
i can see the new setting in the Options, but it does not make any difference wheter if it's on or off, the selection still contains the new line character.
Can you check it, please?
Best regards,
Bean

Can you make sure that the last line isn't an empty line? If the last line is an blank line, copied text will look like there is a new line at the end but actually that's the new line character from the previous line.

Dear Support,
Look for putty application what it does when you do a double click.
ls -l /var/adm/messages
If i double click anywhere on /var/adm/messages the whole /var/adm/messages is selected but xshell will only select the particular word.
This will help the copy paste operation very easy, before the upgrade we were using the shift key and double click.

Double click selects word. You can set the delimiters in Tools > Options.
Triple click is line selection.
They works the same way in Putty too.

I have also used shift+double click a lot, even if it was unintentional. I miss it much.

This thread may long been abandoned, but the answer may be still relevant.
Staying with the previous example.
$ ls -l /var/log/messages-20170122.gz
On double clicking the word "messages", you can select "messages".
On double clicking the word "messages" and holding shift, you can select the whole path, that is: "/var/log/messages-20170122.gz". It's a broader selection, and only whitespaces delimits selection.
On triple clicking the word "messages", you can select the entire line.
This is how it works in version 5 build 0537.

Any updates on this?
This would still be a killer feature for me!
Please, please, please!
I still have to use a very old build to make this work!
