Serial/COM Port reconnect? [1]

Is there any way to force a COM port session to reconnect when a USB-to-SERIAL connection is disconnected/reconnected?

I noticed a session for a COM port stays open even after the device is disconnected - but I can't resume after the usb to serial is reinserted

Usually when reconnected, the serial session can be the same session. I believe, in your case, the com port which is made from the USB has been changed after being unplugged and replugged.
