Xmanager2 does not display all windows [5]

Xmanager2 does not display all windows

Monday, July 3, 2006 10:38 PM - Chad Johnson

In evaluating Xmanager2 vs. Hummingbird Exceed I have an application which opens many windows (50+). Using Exceed as the X server all windows open and can be accessed correctly. When switching to Xmanager2 as the X server all windows seem to be propigated to the local PC but are not accessable. In the windows task bar 53 windows are listed but only a portion of them can be accessed (18 to be exact). If any of the 18 visible windows are selected from the windows task bar the are correctly accessable, if any of the remainder are selected they are not brought to the foreground. It is almost as if they have been rendered off the desktop. When monitoring the backend processes on the UNIX system and selecting one of the windows (from the windows task bar) which does not display on the desktop the backend UNIX process does receive activity so I know the communication channel from the PC to the UNIX server is working correctly, the chosen window just does not render on the desktop.

Any clue?

The methods used to start the process include:

SSH using forwarded X11
SSH not forwarding X11
Telnet

The software used is 'pconsole'. If you are not familiar it starts multiple 'xterm' windoes and utilizes a single controlling window for all I/O. This allows concurrent access to any number of systems.

This is a local (flat) network, no firewall, no NAT etc.

All xterm windows as well as the controlling 'pconsole' window are present on the host PC, they are just not visible. If I select one of the 'off screen' widows (either via the MS Windows task bar or ALT-TAB) I can type in the window (although I cannot see what I am doing as it is off screen).

Xmanager is configured in multiple window mode. I have tried configuring in single window with scrollbar and still cannot view any of the windows which render off screen. With 50+ windows the first 18 paint on the screen and the remainder, instead of painting over the previous ones, appear to render off screen.

I hope this helps.

This problem did not occur in our test machines. However, we are still trying to duplicate this problem. We will get back to you as soon as we found a solution for this.

Meanwhile, please provide us with the following information:

1. Screenshot of the problem
2. Command you are using to start pconsole
3. Could you be more specific on how we can duplicate this problem?

Thank you for your cooperation.
