Applications calling gtk library are slow
Wednesday, March 16, 2005 1:12 PM - Joe
I've read some suggestion given before on gnome slow down problem. And I switch to twm to speed up.
But unfortunately, some apps are calling gtk library.
These apps shows gnome style menus and buttons, which is very slow to show up and close. Freshing
of the window is time-killing.
For example, the newly released "AdobeReader 7.0
for linux" is such an app:
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/7x/7.0/enu/AdbeRdr70_linux_enu.tar.gz
Are there any solutions for this??
Thanks a lot.

We have tested running Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 on our Redhat Linux 9.0 and Fedora Core 3. Acrobat Reader 7.0 ran little slower on Fedora Core 3. But,
Fedora Core 3 runs slow even from the console, therefore it does not seem like there is a visible slow down. Please try running Acrobat Reader from
the console and see if the problem persists.
If Acrobat Reader runs faster on the console, send us with following information to further assist you.
1. Vendor/version of your remote host.
2. Xmanager version.
3. Connection Method (XDMCP, SSH, TELNET)
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
