accurev gui kills Xmanager [5]

Hi. I'm having problems using the gui program of a source-code management system called Accurev. The gui is, I believe, written in Java, though I don't know if that is relevant.

Xmanager is running on an Windows XP Pro system. I'm using Xmanager V2.0.

Let's start where I have an xterm displayed on my XP system; the xterm is running on a remote Debian Linux system. All is well. All is normal.

Now, I type 'acgui &' in the xterm, that being the command to run the Accurev gui program. The splash screen for acgui displays, and a few moments later, it is removed from the screen.

At about the same time, the xterm window loses its standard Windows title bar and border, though the content of the window (the client area, in Windows terms) remains visible. The taskbar button for the xterm window also vanishes. In other words, it looks very much like the window no longer exists as far as Windows is concerned. But the content is still displayed - strange.

All I can do at that point seems to be to reset the server.

The X0.log file shows this:

Client 1 error: tried to allocate color cells on StaticClass
Error: Can't open font '-b&h-lucidasans-medium-r-normal-sans-*-120-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1'
Error: Can't open font '--standard symbols l-medium-r-normal--*-120-*-*-p-*-urw-fontspecific'
Client 1 error: tried to allocate color cells on StaticClass

The problem occurs because java applications conflict with the local window manager of Xmanager. Please try using "Local Only" for the window manager option of Xmanager profile.

To configure the window manager option, please follow the procedure below:
1. Start Xstart and click Advanced.
RESULT: Advanced Options dialog box opens.
2. Click the X Server tab.
3. Click Configures.
RESULT: Properties dialog box opens.
4. Click the General tab.
5. In the Window Mode area, click Settings.
RESULT: Window Mode Settings dialog box opens.
6. Click the Multiple Window Mode tab.
7. In the Window Manager list box, select Local Only.
8. Click OK.
9. Restart Xmanager.

You can also open the Properties dialog box using Xconfig or by clicking Properties from the Xmanager tray menu.

No, that doesn't seem to completely solve it.

Here's what happens after I type 'acgui &' in an xterm.

The acgui splash screen is displayed for several seconds (this is normal).

A Windows task-bar button appears labelled 'accurev'.

The xterm window continues to function correctly (so we have fixed that part of my original problem).

However, there is no window displayed for the acgui program. If I click on the task bar button, it shows up as pressed in the usual manner, but still no window appears.

Those same two log messages show up in X0.log (tried to allocate colour cells on StaticClass).

Is my problem an application bug or an XManager problem?

We have tested Accurev on our machine, but could not duplicate your problem. If you can see the application name on the task bar, it can mean that the application is outside of the viewable area of Windows desktop. Please try following instruction to bring application window back to viewable area.
1. Right click on the taskbar icon.
2. Click move.
3. Press CTRL key and any arrow key simultaneously.
4. Do not click yet and move your mouse pointer to the center of your screen.
RESULT: Application window should appear.
5. Now left click where you want to release the window.

If you problem persists, send us following information.
1. Whether the program works with Xbrowser.
2. Accurev version.
3. Vendor/version of your remote host.

Ah, yes, it was off-screen. You were exactly correct!

(I never thought about it before, but AccuRev must be starting up with window-position information from when I ran it at work - I have a dual-screen setup there.)
