XManager not able to connect to Solari
Monday, December 26, 2005 5:32 PM - Mohammad Farooque
I have xmanager 1.3.9, I need a small help. We have solaris 8 servers hosted on the internet & is currently behind the firewalls.
I have opened the following ports on the firewall
External To Internal (From Internet towards Server)
TCP 6000-6010, TCP 16001
Internal to External (From Server to Internet)
UDP 177, TCP 512, TCP 513, TCP 514, TCP 23, TCP 22.
I wanted to access my Solaris Server sitting in my office Pc which is loaded with XManager software.
When I try to connected xmanager over the public IP I get an error "XDMCP Failed & pls make sure host is ready". While referring knowledge base I have found that I need to enable to CDE Login should be enabled, even I did this by giving the following command at the root
/usr/dtconfig -e
/usr/dtconfig -reset
Even then I couldnot able to connect to solaris server.
Though Xmanager works fine if I connect from the same lan but I want to access these solaris server sitting in my office.
Pls advice is there any other port which I need to open apart from the above one or is there any addition setting needs to be done on Salaris Server.
Pls help
Thanks & Regards

Xmanager is a PC X server. This means your remote server must make a connection back to your PC. According to your email, you have configured it the other way around. Please configure your firewall as following:
From PC to the remote server: UDP 177, TCP 512, 513, 514, 23, 22 for Xstart, TCP 7100 for font server
From the remote server to PC: TCP 6000~6010
If your problem persists, please send us the Xmanager log file. It is located in C:\Program Files\Xmanager1.3.9\Xmanager.log.
Also, if you have purchased Xmanager 1.3.9 between January, 2003 and July 19, 2004, you are eligible for a free upgrade. Please go to our download page and download our latest Xmanager, and then install it using your Xmanager 1.3.9 product key.
