solaris and xmanager [9]

Hi,

I am new to both solaris and xmanager and would like to use xmanager for remote administration for my solaris server.

I have just setup my solaris server and may i know what are the things that i have to configure before i can use xmanager XDMP to connect to my solaris server console?

Before connecting to the Solaris via XDMCP, you should install CDE(Common Desktop Environment) package for graphic environment. If a CDE is installed, the Solaris console will show you a graphic login window after boot procedure. If a graphic login window is not displayed on Solaris console, you can enable it by:

# dtconfig -e

And reboot the Solaris.

After that, you can connect to the Solaris with Xmanager.

If this doesn't solve your problem, please let me know detailed steps you followed and any error messages displayed.

Hi,

Sorry didnt give more details earlier. I installed Solaris 8 for Intel and have installed the latest patches also.

I can logon using the CDE but when I tried to connect using xmanager, the IP address is statis and it is correct, I would get the error, not on system console and then nothing else happens, I do not even get the authentication prompt.

Do I have to configure trusted host or other things?

i keep getting the message XDMP is not able to connect.
i have followed the instructions to set XDM tab and XDM query to my solaris ip. and have commented out the /dev/console line in /etc/default/login. may i know how exactly do i get my xmanager to connect to my solaris CDE? p.s. have read the help but still not clear, would prefer exact steps.

Sorry for the late response.

Please read /var/dt/Xerrors file for the connection error.
This file might give a clue to the solution.
If possible, please upload the error messages.

And you don't have to configure trusted hosts for XDMCP connection.

The error message says that the hostname of your PC is "sinpc". Please check if the name is correct for your IP address. If "sinpc" is not the name of your PC, the name server has a configuration error and you can fix it by adding a line in "/etc/hosts" file.

123.123.123.123 sinpc

123.123.123.123 should be changed to the IP address of your PC.

This is a warning message given by Solaris. OpenWindow is an old desktop envrionment and SUN (now Oracle) included that message to help users to migrate to new desktop environment, CDE.

You can safely ignore this message by selecting the "Check here to disable this message" checkbox.
