Disconnected from Xsession [2]

Disconnected from Xsession

Thursday, December 6, 2001 1:12 AM - Jim J

I am using xmanager to create a remote session to a Solaris 8 server (behavior also happen again Solaris 7).

I am getting XDMCP connection failed messages, but if I am patient and keep retrying, It will eventually connect.

Every this is working fine, but after some time, we lose the connection. Everything appears fine on the server itself, so can anyone suggest we we are losing the network connection. I see this most often when there is a lot of traffic on the LAN. But, with that said, I am able to connect to other server on the same LAN without any issues.

Symptom question - I see this behavior at the same time. What could cause host names to not consistantly appear in the Xbrowser window. I usually lose the connection at the same time the xbrowser is unable to keep the host listed.

The dtlogin process might not work well because of some misconfiguration or system load.

Please check the followings:

- Available memory and disk space (/tmp).
- CPU usage, number of processes and system load.
- dtlogin is enabled at system boot time not by command.
- DNS settings are consistent or not.

Suggestions:

- Reboot the system.
- Reinstall Solaris if possible.

We also have same experience with Solaris. The reason is unknown yet and we solve it by re-installing the OS. Sorry that we don't have a clear solution in this situation.

Thanks. Everything looks fine from a resource perspective. And, dtlogin is enabled, so, I'll try the bounce of the server.

However, I have a suspicion that I will need to reinstall Solaris. I'm just glad that you have duplicated the problem. I am only experiencing this problem on 1 of 6 servers that I am monitoring.
