macros for storing keystrokes [3]

Is it possible for Xshell to store keystrokes in macros?

We use Xshell on a Windows Terminal Server, and that server picks up certain keystrokes (like ctrl-alt, for example). That means Xshell does not pick up those keystrokes to transmit.

We need the remote device, accessed through Xshell, to receive these keystrokes. Could they be stored in a macro?

Normally, 'Ctrl+Alt' key combination is not transmitted to the remote server. This is because you are actually sending characters and not keystrokes. And unfortunately, 'Ctrl+Alt' key combination is not mapped to a character. Meaning, terminal emulators do not know which character to send when these keys are pressed.

2. What are the key strokes you have to transmit to the server?

The remote devices we need to connect to are serial terminal concentrators, such as Lantronix SCS400.

1. Does this work on PC or in any other terminal emulator?

It works with a laptop connected directly to the terminal concentrator, and it works if we putty (ssh) direct to a terminal concentrator over the network too.

It only fails in a terminal server.


2. What are the key strokes you have to transmit to the server?

ctrl-alt-[A CHARACTER].
The terminal concentrator lets us choose which character, but not the ctrl-alt part.

3. Connection protocol (TELNET/SSH)

Mostly SSH, some telnet.
