Why I can't select many font( for example Courier New) after I change my encoding into GBK(or GB2312)?
But while I use default encoding(GB2312) it can.
Program Ver. : Xshell 3.0

Most fonts do not have Chinese characters. So, Xshell only only shows the fonts with Chinese characters.
For this reason, you cannot select "Courier New" for Chinese encoding.

The fonts support Chinese characters looks too stupid for English characters. Can you make some change to let Xshell can select other fonts even in GBK code?
You can work this way: If the character is English, just use the font selected, if the character can't find in the font, use default font.

This problem is not fixed even three years later. Other ssh clients such as PuTTY, SecureShell and SecureCRT can render the English characters with any font (especially Courier New and Consolas) when mixed with Chinese characters in GBK encoding. XShell just looks so ugly that I have to give up it and try other alternative clients if the locale of remote server is set to GBK.

I found this post via Google.
Time has passed 2 years! This problem is still unresolved.
Very disappointing!

You should try Xshell 5. This is supported in Xshell 5.
