cutting and pasting from Xshell window to Thunderbird

Hi,
I have been using other terminal emulators before and I could always cutting and pasting lines from the terminal window to an e-mail written using Thunderbird by selecting the line on the window with the mouse and then pasting it into the e-mail (using Crtl V). I tried to do the same on a login shell opened using Xshell but nothing happens. I also tried selecting the line with the mouse, then Crtl C on the login window and after that Crtl V on the e-mail wondow but again nothing happened. Is there some different sequence of characters that I have to use ?
Many thanks
Fabrizio
