Xbrowser does not work with RHEL V5.5

Hi

Xbrowser does not work with RHEL V5.5. Here's the text of the BZ I created for Red Hat (which, because gdmlogin isn't planned to be worked on in RHEL V5.6, was closed without any action).

Bug 625576 - [EMC 5.6 bug] gdmlogin segfault

Description of problem:

When I attempt to log in to a RHEL V5.5 x64 system from Xbrowser running on a
Windows 2003 system, I see a 'flash' of a X window (a window which appears then
immediately disappears), and the following message in /var/log/messages of the
RHEL system:

kernel: gdmlogin[7299]: segfault at 0000000000000000 rip 0000000000000000 rsp
00007fff34f524e8 error 14

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

RHEL V5.5 x64
gdm-2.16.0-56.el5

Xbrowser for Xmanager 3.0 (from NetSarang Computer)
Windows 2003 SP2 X86

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log in to Windows system
2. Run Xbrowser
3. Double-click on the RHEL system to which you want to connect

Actual results:
See a window 'flash' (appear very briefly) then disappear
gdmlogin segfault in /var/log/windows

Expected results:
See a X window from the RHEL with a username/password prompt

---

Thoughts?

Thanks
tl

The log shows that the gdmlogin process has crashed with segmentation fault. It is really rare for Xmanager to crash a remote process.

There was a similar bug in gdm before in Fedora. Perhaps the same problem is now introduced to RHEL. Workaround for the problem was to use kdm or xdm instead of gdm. Also, you can try running the gnome-session through SSH tunnel. Here is an instruction:
