First, try opening an xterm window from Xstart and start the Gnome session (gnome-session) from it.

If the problem persists, please send us the following information?

1. Full Xrcmd: reply message in text format.
2. What is the name and version of the remote host?
3 The following log files:

=> /var/log/messages : General log messages
=> /var/log/auth.log : User login and authentication logs
=> /var/log/faillog : User failed login log file
=> /var/log/apport.log : Application crash report / log file

* some of these files may be missing. This is OK. Please provide the files you can find.
