XWindow does not appear after triggering on XStart

Monday, December 28, 2009 2:31 AM - jgrufo

Hi,

I am trying to run an Xstart using my Windows XP client to an IBM AIX version 5 server. I am using telnet protocol.

However, the application does not launch the shell window with x-window enabled (sorry not sure what term to use)

Checking on the Show Reply Messages window, it only displays the shell.

I've tested with other servers, via SSH and it worked. Installing SSH is currently not an option.

Thanks

Program Ver. : Xmanager 3.0
Connection Method : Xstart connection

Please post the following information:

1. Everything in the Xrcmd: reply messages dialog box. (Show reply messages)
2. Are AIX and your PC within the same network?

I don't quite follow your explanation, but in case it helps, I had a very similar problem. When using telnet to start an xterm on Linux, if I select the 'show reply messages' checkbox in Xstart then the xterm appears, otherwise it does not.

I don't know of any workaround; for me, ssh is preferable in any case.

Hope this helps,
dave
