IT Infrastructure Services and Technical Support

Hi all;
I used to access an AIX server through Xbrowser by entering the IP address of the server in the "Address" bar and clicking "Go", and that was to start an Xmanager session to the AIX server to use a GUI application on the server "TSM 6.2", but now when I press "Go" a blank Xbrowser window appears and no connection to the server is intiated. Please clarify if there are any ports needed to be opened to re-intiate the connection or it's an application problem. Thanks in advance.

Note:
Kindly find attached screen shots of the problem.

Program Ver. : Xmanager 2.x
Connect Method : Other

Three possible scenarios:

1. Windows firewall rule is changed and xdm cannot make connection back to Xmanager. To fix this issue, open Control Panel > Firewall and add Xmanager.exe to the Exception list. Also, if you are using any 3rd party network security tools, try disabling it to test the connection.

2. Firewall rule on AiX is changed and Xmanager cannot connect to the server. In this case, talk to the system administrator to open UDP port 177 on the server.

3. xdm is not working properly or not running at all. Check the process on AiX and make sure xdm is running. If the xdm process is not running, run it and try making connection again. If it is already running, try restarting the process by going to run level 3 and then back to run level 5. This usually kills the xdm process and restarts it . If the process does not restart itself, you have to restart the server.

If the problem persists, please send us the Xmanager log file. To retrieve the log, open Xmanager session and wait for connection failure. Click No to retry connection. Right click on the Xmanager title bar and select Log > File.

Dears;
First of all I'd like to thank you for your fast reply and professional support. My problem is solved by installing XManager Enterprise version 3 instead of the current one (2.0). I tried to connect and it was successfully functioning. I don't realy know the reason for the first problem although I was using the same AIX client and Windows host as I'm currently using. Anyway thank you again and have a nice day.

It might have been the firewall settings on Windows. Xmanager registers itself to allowed list on Windows firewall when it is being installed. I think Xmanager 2.0 was excluded from the allowed list.

I am glad to hear the problem is fixed.
