I forgot my Lock Screen password. How can I reset it?

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION or QUESTION

The Lock Screen function is enabled, but I forgot my password. How can I return to my working sessions?

RESOLUTION

If the Lock Screen is engaged and you forgot your password, there is no way for you to access your current sessions in use.

To use Xshell, you’ll need to forcefully close and restart it. If your screen lock is set to work automatically, you will need to reset the password. Follow the steps below to reset your Lock Screen password. This applies to Version 6 or 7 only.

  1. Terminate any Xshell instances running in the Task Manager

  2. Open the Xshell.ini file in the Xshell data folder with an editor.
The data folder’s default location is: ‘c:\Users\[user]\Documents\NetSarang Computer\[version]\Xshell\’

  3. Find the ‘EncLockPasswd’ line and delete the password string.

  4. Restart Xshell.

  5. If you want to continue to use the Lock Screen feature, set a new password in [Options] → [Security] → [Lock Screen].

For reference, the Lock Screen password is more secure if the Master Password is also set in Xshell.
