Slow xftp transfers [6]

Slow xftp transfers

Wednesday, October 24, 2007 7:08 AM - DeVon Jarvis

I upgraded computers recently. On my old machine, I could get tranfer rates of ~4MB/sec, on my new box I only get 300KB/sec. Are there options in XFtp to control speed?

Xftp does not limit upload/download speed. This is usually set in the ftp/sftp server.

Also, perhaps your gateway/router is limiting your bandwith usage.

Ciao~

I forgot to mention.

Sometimes few network cards were recognized as 10 Mbps network cards by Windows OS's even though it fully supports 10/100 Mbps. Make sure this is not the case.

Also, perhaps your network card only supports 10 Mbps?

Ciao again.

Here is what I have done...

I have run diagnostics on the network card and swapped cable and port. There was no change, and the diagnostics tell me that the card is set to 100/full.

I tried downloading a large file using FireFox from Internet and I was able to receive it at 2MB/sec.

I also tried uploading a file using xFtp on a team member's PC and upload speed was 3.5MB/sec.

On my new box though, it still will only transfer at 300KB/sec.

I installed the latest XEnterprise 2.1

Let me know.

If file size is too small and download happens too quickly or if you are downloading a folder that has may small files like this, download speed may show small number than actually speed.

Try downloading large files (3MB+). This should show your actually transfer speed.

Yes, I am uploading a 270Mb file.

I noticed though, that while the upload is slow, downloads are happening fast (~3MB/sec).

Any ideas? It would seem that the some setting on my new PC is wrong...

It is probably uploading speed limit by your ISP or file server.
