Gnome terminal exits abruptly

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

This article explains how you can fix the issue with Gnome terminal exiting abruptly with the following error message:

"Error: Application "gnome-terminal" (process xxxxx) has crashed due to a fatal error. (Segmentation fault)"

REASON

This problem occurs under Red Hat 7.3 due to missing font. 

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you have to use font server (refer to the following instruction).

This problem may occur when gnome-terminal setup file is corrupted in the user's $HOME directory. Try deleting the following files:

$HOME/.gconf

$HOME/.gconfd

$HOME/.gnome*
