Some feature requests

Monday, December 3, 2007 10:36 AM - Djembe

I have been trying the Xftp 3.0 Beta Build 0130, and I have a few feature requests...

1) An option to automatically refresh the remote view after completing all transfers.
2) An option to display the full path in the local tabs drop down menu field. (As it is for the remote side.)

And this suggestion may be more complicated...

3) When I open multiple remote session tabs, I would prefer that only a single local tab remains open and that it automatically switches to the corresponding initial local folder defined for each FTP session. Switching to another remote session tab would cause the local tab to display its associated initial local folder until I browsed elsewhere. It should remember folder locations independently, so switching between remote session tabs would make the local tab automatically display the contents of the last browsed local folder.

I hope that makes sense.

Thank you,
Djembe

Thank you for your feature request.

I have added these features to our requested features list.

However, the first requested feature is already in Xftp. If the remote folder does not refreshes when upload completes, please let us know the version and vendor of the remote host and how we can duplicate the problem.

Thank you for trying out Xftp 3.0 Beta

Thank you for your quick reply.

My remote server is running Linux CentOS 4.5. The FTP server application is Pure-FTPd.

I see that Xftp's remote pane does refresh when small files are finished transferring, as you indicate. However, I have found that when I upload larger files (80MB or so), the remote pane does not refresh. Also, when I upload a large file, it will transfer successfully, and then the item name remains in the Transfers Window (at 100%), despite having the 'Delete finished transfer logs' option enabled.

I am wondering if it's a timeout issue? The remote server only allows for 15 minutes of inactivity, and the time for me to upload a 80MB file is about 25 minutes. It appears as though I'm consistently logged off immediately after the transfer completes.

Thanks again.

Yes, the reason the remote folder does not get refreshed is because the connection has been disconnected. You can avoid this by increasing the timeout period or using the keep alive option.

To enable "Send keep alive messages" option, open the session properties dialog box, and click the Options tab. Then, select Send keep alive messages.

However, we could not duplicate the transfer log remaining problem. We will test further. Meanwhile, please let us know if you have any update on this problem.

Thanks again.

I have ensured that the 'Send keep alive messages' option was enabled. (It was already checked by default.)
Today, I uploaded a 120MB file to the same server described previously. As before, the file transferred completely, and the file entry remained in the Transfers Window at 100%, the Remote pane did not refresh. It doesn't indicate that the connection is closed in the Log Window at that time. (If I wait a while, it will eventually disconnect however).

I have gone through the same steps perhaps ten times, and each time I get the same results.

I've since experienced the same behaviors when uploading large files to a different server. (Also Linux, though I'm unsure of the specific distribution.)

Djembe

Thank you for your update.

The status shown on Xftp and the actual upload may have synchronization problem. I will get back to you on this after testing the problem.
