Unable to open more than 4 tabs. [28]

I'm unable to open more than 4 tabs in Xshell 6 Free for Home/School. Is this a bug?

This is not a bug. Our research showed that 4 tabs was typically more than enough for home and school users for one window. If you require more tabs, you can simply open a new window. If you require more tabs on a single window, we encourage you to support us by purchasing a license.

Our paid licenses have no restrictions and your purchase directly helps us by allowing us to expand our team and resources.

Your research is flawed.

Asking for money is a legitimate request.
Telling us that we don't need more than 4 tabs at home is not.

People using ssh are aware of what a free linux desktop offers for ssh too.

In any case, we are grateful for giving us xshell 5, and btw thanks for all the fish

Agreed. Your research is very flawed. I run a bulletin board system, I have 3 log files that I monitor, using tail -f, plus I have a shell connect to the board itself, then I have one or two to my own personal server.

While I appreciate you giving away your software for home users, this is an unrealistic expectation.

I guess you'll be sorry to see me go too.

While I enjoy xshell 6, I'm not tied to it and there are many other quality options out there, but it also means I won't be able to recommend it to others.

While there are other options, we believe we have an excellent set of features wrapped in single package that other free alternatives simply cannot match.

With the 4 tab restriction, we knew that we'd lose some of our existing users, which is unfortunate, but an overwhelming amount of our userbase has continued to take advantage of our free offering.

We are committed to providing a commercial grade SSH client to students and home users, but at the same time, we need to pay our bills and hope to expand our development team as our userbase grows. Feel free to provide any other feedback as we're always open to suggestions. Yes, we're sad to see you go, but I hope we can develop Xshell into something you'll want to come back for.

It all makes sense, of course some would lie and say they're using it for home/school yet they're using it in companies, i can't blame netsarang for being logical.
i myself cant afford to buy it for now yet It's such a great package and worth it, I'll keep recommending it,

I've been a fan of Xshell since v4 - I'm also a home user and I find the 4 tab limit silly. I'm happy to buy the product and support you guys but it needs to be at a reasonable price. There is only one right now - $99 and that is significantly higher than what I value Xshell at.

Why do I want to pay the same price as a business when I'm not using any business features? I'm sure whatever research told you home users did not use more than 4 tabs also told you the other features that home users do not use as well.

Why not sell a home license for something that is more reasonable/affordable for home users? $25 is something I'm willing to pay.

Home user here as well, and I agree that the 4 tab limit is unreasonable.

The limit is ridiculous. I run a home server with several VMs and docker containers. I also have a bunch of Raspberry PI devices. This limit makes the software unusable for me.

I also found the price to be way too high being that I am a home non-business user. I also only run windows at home and I use Linux at work so it is useless from a business standpoint for me (since there is no linux client).

I'm going to start using alternatives at home now. This limit and pricing is a no-go for me.

I agree that the 4 tabs really ruins xshell for me. I'm a student and have been very happy with xshell over the past couple of years and would have very likely requested to have it at my future job, which in turn would have likely sold even more once people saw me using it and hearing me brag about it. I feel you guys are loosing a lot of free advertising. Best of luck..

Hi, palliatively, change date to older for work or reinstall an older version and do not update (uncheck option on tools, options, update).

You lost another user. Plenty of other free and much more powerful clients available out there. I'm glad you forced me to try them. Good bye.

Yeah, the way you crippled Xshell 5 and forced us to update a working program with virtually no notice is a dealbreaker. Great product but that alienated a lot of your users. So long.

I figured after using it for free for many years and loving it as a tool that paying for a licence really wasn't the end of the world. So for this user their method worked; but it sucks as a start to the new year (doesn't help that my basement flooded as well this morning....Yay for 2019 so far...).

But...I agree that $99 is way too high, and is the reason I never paid previously. Please consider doing a light version that perhaps doesn't have maintenance support, or limits it in a less crippling way (4 tabs is crazy low).

You have a great product with a few things your competitors don't have and that I'm happy to pay for - but be reasonable :)

I was happy using xshell+xftp combo in the past. I tried using version 6 (both), but this just doesn't work . 4 tabs in xshell and 2 tabs in xftp are just to low, for any serious ssh/sftp work on linux servers.

I really liked tab arrangement functionality, but like I said, 4/2 (ssh/sftp) are not enough.

I'll just have to go back to putty/winscp combo.

This tab limit really stinks! I manage several network switches at the University and when doing CLI firmware upgrades I may have 15 or 20 windows open and issue the command at the bottom to load firmware and reboot all of them at once.

Will be looking for a replacement to X-Shell at this point, my abilities have been severely impacted.

Oh man, this is great! Last year the company had their software hacked with some spyware, and now they are doing thing to themselves by practically removing all usability of their free version - making it unusable and very limited.

If one cares to look at past examples, whenever a software does that, people will move away from it. Sure, there will still be the ones who decide to purchase, and all the power to them and the company for having them as clients.

Issue is that the masses, the free version of it, is what brings in the money. People will eventually purchase it at a reasonable price if features are left as flexible as possible.

Inflexibility, unreasonable price is what kills a product. Something for the new director(s) at Netsarang to learn.

Appreciate the old versions of it, but the new one does not do it for me. Thanks for the past services. From now on, I am moving on with other flexible and freeware alternatives. Thanks!

Yes, m using it for office use but m not getting any funding from company for paying this nonsense fees, You would've look for other alternatives to collect money out of this, e.g. you can put adds, etc

And another Good Bye .... Unreasonable price for a product for which many free alternatives are available out there.
Its like going out somewhere where plenty of free parking spaces are available everywhere but someone sitting in the corner asking to park for $100 in their parking area just because they think their parking space is more good than others.... Only someone without mind will park there.
