Configuring Redhat Linux 9.x, 8.x, 7.x

  1. Run /usr/bin/printtool as root user.
  2. Click New and proceed to the following screens: 





    • Queue Name: remote printer name to be specified on the lpr command line
    • Queue Type: select Unix Printer (LPD)
    • Server: IP address or hostname of the PC where Xlpd is installed. The IP address may not be accepted, then the hostname should be registered in /etc/hosts file as explained in General setup.
    • Queue: queue of Xlpd, Xlpd uses only one queue, so you may enter any name.
    • Select Printer Driver: printer model, if you have no model information, select "Text Only Printer".

  3. Click Apply to finish the printer registration.
  4. To print a file on RedHat 7.x, 8.x, 9.x, the following command line is used. 
    $ /usr/bin/lpr -Pqueue_name filename


Configuring Redhat 6.x

  1. Run /usr/bin/printtool as root user.
  2. Click Add.
  3. On the Printer Type, select Remote Unix (lpd) Queue.
  4. On the printer setup window, enter the following: 



    • Name: remote printer name to be specified on the lpr command line
    • Remote Host: IP address or hostname of the PC where Xlpd is installed. If the IP address is not accepted, then the hostname should be registered in /etc/hosts file as explained in General setup.
    • Remote Queue: queue of Xlpd, Xlpd uses only one queue, so you may enter any name.
    • Leave other fields to default.

  5. Click OK.
