Resolving Workspace issues when a Virtual Screen is selected in a multi-monitor environment
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION or QUESTION
When connecting to Linux on a workstation via XDMCP and utilizing the virtual screen option in the monitor check box, the dual monitor is not being recognized properly. Linux is recognizing and sending the xdmcp window as a single monitor.
Thus, maximizing a window is based on two windows of a dual monitor system, while it should be based on only one of the monitors. The Linux panel is then inconveniently formed on both ends of the monitor.
This guide will go over how to have the connection properly recognize the dual monitor environment when connecting remotely via XDMCP.
RESOLUTION
In an environment using multiple monitors, the Virtual Screen creates the largest rectangular virtual screen according to the number and arrangement of monitors.
E.g. Monitor Placement:
The monitor placement in the example above will lead to the virtual screen (workspace) below:
Therefore, regardless of whether the resolutions are different or the same, if the monitors are staggered in their alignment, you may have difficulties during use.
In this case, you will need to select one of the monitors rather than a Virtual Screen for your workspace.
