PROBLEM

In applications containing line characters, such as mc or Redhat's setup utility, letters are lines are not properly lined up or appear pushed.

RESOLUTION

If the language encoding is UTF-8, then the cause of the issue is with the option to set the width of some line characters.

Go to the Xshell session file's properties and uncheck the 'Treat ambiguously sized characters as wide' option.

The option can be found in 'Session Properties - Terminal - Translation'.
